At the start of 2020, Amsterdam-based Waarmakers Studio was working on new products for the office that help people stay healthy at work. When COVID-19 hit, our homes became our offices and for some of us our kitchen tables became our new work desks.  

INGRID is a custom-made piece of furniture that was launched to support those of us working from home who want their home to still feel like home, even though for so many of us our home has become the office.

Many of us know the healthiest way of working is to frequently switch between sitting and standing, being actively aware of your posture. INGRID is a wonderfully simple sit/stand workstation that lets you work at home comfortably, healthily and with minimal disruption to your home. It is tailor-made to your body and table, resulting in the perfect standing height when placed on the table and the optimal sitting height when placed on the floor. Switching and staying active is key, and has never been simpler. 

And when not in use, INGRID works as a side table, kitchen step, that extra diner seat, toy box, or whatever else you may need her for. 

“Every piece of furniture that enters a home is the result of careful consideration and negotiation. With INGRID we wanted to create functional ‘working’ furniture that doesn’t have an office cubicle vibe.” explained Maarten Heijltjes, Founding Partner at Waarmakers Studio. 

Whilst INGRID is in her core a CNC cut birch plywood product and not an authentically handcrafted piece of furniture, it does require a degree of manual labour to finish the innovative piece to the desired standard and quality that Waarmakers strives to achieve. The lightweight plywood makes INGRID easy to pick up and put down, while the grid system makes it strong enough to support your weight and stuff.

I’ve long been an advocate of sit-stand working, and several years ago discovered our built-in shelving provided the perfect height and space for me to stand at times throughout the day when I’m working from home.
