mafi, the natural choice for high-quality Yacht interiors

Sometimes demand acts as a catalyst. In itself, the mafi brand is an expert and pioneer for natural and healthy wooden floors for indoor use.

However, thanks to the combination of a stable plank structure and an innovative surface finish (slip resistance class R11), which allows direct contact with the wood, mafi natural wood floors are increasingly being used for high-quality yacht interiors. The areas of application extend not only to the floor, but also to stairs, walls and ceilings.

Popular products for yacht interiors

In addition to fine products and colours such as walnut planks or oak and OAK Vulcano variants, mafi’s 3D surfaces are particularly popular in yacht interiors.

The floors in the Riva collection have a structure that is as natural as possible and runs along the length of the plank. Wooden floors from the Fresco collection, on the other hand, have different designs that are characterised by their regular repetitions. The Carving collection offers extravagant designs ranging from classic to modern. Special designs can also be offered on request.

Competitive advantages of mafi Natural Wood Floors

Maximum stability through Symmetrical Plank Construction

Wood has a pronounced swelling and shrinking behavior and reacts to humidity and the effects of water. These influencing factors occur more frequently in shipbuilding and therefore require more specific stability requirements.

mafi natural wood floors are based on a symmetrical plank structure in three solid wood layers. The symmetry is achieved via the top and back layers. The same wood is used in the same initial thickness and drying process. The middle layer is made of spruce and is cross-glued at 90°, thereby guaranteeing additional stability.

As standard, the three layers are glued with formaldehyde-free, vinegar-based white glue. On request, the gluing can be done on a D4 basis to further increase the moisture resistance.

Moisture-regulating Surface Finish

In addition to dimensional stability, wood in shipbuilding has two other key challenges to overcome: dealing with water and slip resistance. Both issues are overcome thanks to the special mafi surface. However, the word surface does not really apply here. mafi finishes the wooden planks with natural oils, but allows them to dry in the air and thus penetrate deep into the wood.

This open porosity of the wood allows water or moisture to penetrate the wood, but also to evaporate back into the room air without barriers. The resistance to moisture damage is extremely high. Any deformations are counteracted by the symmetrical plank structure.

Safety of Slip Resistance Class R11

Wood itself is ideal in terms of slip resistance. Any layers applied to supposedly protect the wood, such as UV oil, varnish or wax, are usually more problematic.

mafi dispenses with these types of surfaces and works with finishing forms within the wood that do not create a barrier between the wood and people. As a result, mafi oak planks have a slip resistance of R11.

We’re thrilled to be associated with mafi and look forward to discussing new projects with private and trade customers including architects, developers and interior designers around the world.
